How it works - activating your Hottie

Please do follow the instructions carefully. It is very important to establish the power of your microwave - guessing its wattage output is not recommended, as the heating times are mathematically calculated.

  1. The Hottie does fit flat into most microwaves but you can gently roll or fold your Hottie if you have a particularly small microwave. Please do check that your Hottie doesn't get stuck when the turntable begins to rotate.
  2. It is a good idea to keep the instructions by the microwave as we have found from experience that where there are multi users of the Hottie in a family, the instructions occasionally get ignored.
  3. If you exceed the maximum heating time, the water content of the Hottie may boil and convert to vapour causing the Hottie pouch to expand, and eventually part the seals. Hotties cannot be repaired at home as they are vacuum sealed. Please telephone the helpline (0870 2415907) for guidance if you do inadvertently overheat your Hottie.
  4. Please remember that hot water bottles are not recommended for babies under 18 months, people suffering from sensory loss either through for example diabetes or people under going radio-therapy.
  5. If you should accidentally overheat your Hottie, (and people do) then please switch of the microwave and return to the Hottie when it has cooled down. The water content of the Hottie is not designed to boil, and expansion of the poly plastic pouch can only take place if boiling has occurred, converting the water to steam and raising the internal pressure. If the Hottie does expand it is designed to fail safe, but it will probably make a popping sound, and the pouch will split allowing the leaves of nonwoven fabric to separate thereby cooling the core down more quickly.

You must never re-use a damaged Hottie nor attempt a home repair, (no gaffer tape please), as the Hottie cores are vacuum sealed and this cannot be replicated at home.
If you are in any doubt do just give us a call.
